Local 602 Information
President - Scott Lopez
I’m Scott Lopez, President of CSEA Local 602, on behalf of myself and the Officers, welcome to our new and improved website. It is a work in progress and we hope it will become a source of important news and information to our members. Once again, I’d like to thank you for your vote of confidence in me and let you know what we’ve been up to my first three months in office. I campaigned on communication and representation and assured you that this would be YOUR union - not mine and that YOU, the member, would be my first and foremost priority. I’d like to think of this website as the first step in getting information to you in a timely manner and with minimal cost to the Local. We also realize that not everyone has access to a computer which is why we are currently seeking volunteers to get our newsletter up and running again and asking members who work in close proximity to our CSEA bulletin boards to help us post fliers and information on the North and South Campuses. In addition to that, we are looking for members to serve on committees with our officers. To be considered, call the CSEA office at 645-3040 with your name, department and telephone number. The Officers, Board of Directors, and I have been working diligently to move our Local into the twenty-first century technology-wise. We purchased a new office computer and printer, as well as laptops for the President, Grievance Chair, and Treasurer. We also purchased cell phones with text messaging capabilities for the President, Executive Vice President and Grievance Chair which gives you one more way to contact us. The upgrade to current technology helps make us more accessible to you. It also allows us to efficiently complete and file grievance paperwork and maintain financial records.
While it’s impossible to change things overnight I feel we’re off to a good start. Since July 1st, we have addressed several grievances that were filed on the member’s behalf. The Officers, Delegates and Board Reps with Delegate status attended the 99th Annual Delegates Convention here in Buffalo. While there we participated in an Electronic Town Hall Meeting which I personally found to be very educational and informative. We will share that information with you on this site in the near future.
In closing, if you have any concerns, questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me or any one of the Officers. We may not be able to answer you immediately, but I promise you that we will get the answer from the proper authority and get back to you in a timely manner. I truly appreciate the trust you’ve placed in me and I assure you that I will always put the best interests of our Local and its membership first.
In solidarity,
Scott Lopez
Officers
Vice President - Gary (Gomez) Thomann
I became a Union leader because I wanted to help out our local membership, with any questions, concerns or issues they may have. It's great that I can go to different meetings or the classes we attend. I like to meet new people with the same concerns we have, and talk about different ways to come up with new ideas on how to handle the challenges we face every day.
I'm a person you can come and talk with. If I don't have an answer for any issue you may have, I'll find out the answer and get back to you as soon as possible. Feel free to contact me on the phone number listed above.
Sincerely,
Gary Thomann
Board Representative - Sandra Mazurek
Hi, my name is Sandy Mazurek. I have worked for the University of Buffalo for twenty years. In August 2006, I became a janitor at Hadley Village Apartments. In June 2009, I was elected to sit on the Executive Board for CSEA Local 602. Since I have only been a part of the Union for four months, I am working on expanding my knowledge of how the Union works for its members. I have also taken a class on how to become a Union Steward. Being a Union Steward, I am here to represent our members. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to help you.
